EB5 Investors Magazine welcomed more than 1,000 attendees to the Fourth Annual Las Vegas EB-5 & Investment Immigration Convention, resulting in the most-attended domestic event in EB-5 industry history. With the backing of 70-plus sponsors, the two-day convention took place at the luxurious Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and featured educational workshops and panels, timely keynote speeches by U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and U.S. Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO-2nd), and a plethora of networking opportunities.

In attendance was a diverse group of over 120 migration agents, along with EB-5 regional centers, immigration and securities attorneys, developers, broker-dealers and other EB-5 program stakeholders.

Events kicked off with a triad of moderated educational workshops for pre-registered participants. These workshops focused on due diligence issues for migration agents, including project underwriting and source of funds topics; EB-5 financing matters, such as how to design a marketing strategy; and EB-5 immigration matters for attorneys, including source of funds issues and dealing with RFEs.

The workshop moderators and speakers included prominent EB-5 attorneys, along with representatives from major regional centers, development companies, and migration agencies. Workshop attendees and facilitators mingled during the scheduled coffee breaks, building connections in an intimate environment, and the networking opportunities continued with a private cocktail reception for invited guests.

The full-day convention in January commenced with a full house at the general session and breakfast, with Rep. Polis delivering a keynote address that highlighted the importance of continuing and improving the EB-5 program. Before an equally packed house during the general session and lunch, keynote speaker Sen. Flake expressed a similar dedication to extending and increasing the integrity of the EB-5 program.

Attendees with various EB-5 program knowledge levels had the opportunity to learn about pressing investment immigration issues via a dual-track of beginner and advanced panels. The panels covered a broad spectrum of current and forward-looking EB-5 matters, from “Migration Agents: Selling EB-5 in the Likelihood of a New Era,” to “The Expanding Role of the Broker-Dealer,” to “Regional Center/Issuer Obstacles: What Lies Ahead in 2017.”
The 90-plus panelists included preeminent immigration professionals, regional center owners and creators, securities attorneys, migration agency principals and other major EB-5 service providers. Rep. Polis also provided further insight from Capitol Hill during the “EB-5 Government and Legislation Considerations” panel, which was especially timely given the DHS’s announcement of the proposed changes to the EB-5 program.

The 2017 Las Vegas EB-5 & Investment Immigration Convention concluded on Saturday evening with a cocktail reception for all guests, providing a final opportunity to review the material presented and to build community. Throughout the entire conference, attendees had ample chance to network, weigh in on EB-5 industry news and interact with sponsors at the impressive array of booths in the Exhibitor Hall.

Both familiar and new faces were present at the Fourth Annual Las Vegas EB-5 & Investment Immigration Convention, and there was overwhelmingly positive feedback about the event, including the panel topics and panelist selection. We look forward to continuing to facilitate EB-5 program-learning and community-building around the globe at the 2017 San Francisco EB-5 & Investment Immigration Convention in July.
