How can we change the name of a regional center?

Our regional center formerly had “U.S.” in the title. Now we want to remove this part in the title and add the name of the state where we are located. What is involved in this process? Must the I-924 be filed as an amendment for a name change with completing the $17,000 filing fee?

File an amendment to change the name of the regional center.

A corporate name change is just a regular business procedure. You should consult your state government agency responsible for registration of the business and file the necessary application to amend your corporate name. In some states, such as Illinois, you simply need to file the articles of amendment form. Upon changing the name, you should notify USCIS of the name change and request that the existing name be changed to reflect the new name.

Unfortunately, you must file an amendment.

You have to file an amendment if the name change was deemed to be material. If you only deleted the U.S. in the title, that would not seem to be a material change and you could accomplish same when you file your next I-526 petition and at that time explaining the name change.

According to the I-924 instructions themselves, filing that form is required to change the name of the Regional Center, which unfortunately does come with a hefty filing fee.

You must file an amendment to seek approval for any changes to the name of the regional center.
