He pursued his Juris Doctor degree at the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Mo. He later completed the American Law Studies program for Chinese scholars at Columbia University School of Law in New York City.
After completing his Juris Doctor degree, he became a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association in California and a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He was also admitted to the Missouri State Bar. He has 17 years of experience in assisting and representing clients in the Board of Immigration Appeals, immigration court, and in the Federal Court of Appeals.
