James W. Childs is an EB-5 immigration lawyer and is one of the partners of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, LLP, a law firm with offices in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Montgomery, Ala.; Charlotte, N.C.; Jackson, Miss.; Nashville, Tenn.; and Washington D.C. Aside from being an immigration lawyer, Attorney Childs practices corporate law.

Attorney Childs is the firm’s chairman of the venture capital and private equity practice. He has years of experience in different aspects of private equity transactions and venture capital; his experiences particularly include fund formations, negotiating disposition and acquisition by private equity funds, investment advisement, and more. Additionally, attorney Childs is the law firm’s co-chairman of the life sciences industry team and the chairman of the emerging growth companies team. He spends the majority of his time as a lawyer in representing software, biotech, alternative energy, and other growing and expanding companies.
Attorney Childs completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Presbyterian College in 1992. Afterwards, he finished his Master of Business Administration at Baylor University in 1993; he was a member of the Financial Management Association Honor Society and Omicron Delta Epsilon International Honor Society in Economics. After his MBA studies, he studied and completed his Juris Doctor degree at Samford University Cumberland School of Law, and graduated summa cum laude in 1997.
Attorney Childs, despite being considered a young lawyer, has already several recognitions and awards. He was named one of the Best Lawyers in America. In 2011, Birmingham Venture Capital Law recognized him as “Lawyer of the Year.” Additionally, he was recognized by Birmingham Business Journal’s list of “Top 40 Under 40.”
Attorney Childs also writes articles and publications, including articles regarding the JOBS Act, the Investment Advisers Act and the SEC’s implementation of amendments to the Dodd-Frank Act, as well as articles about technology. He also offers free legal services to underprivileged entrepreneurs from Odessa, Ukraine in developing and expanding their businesses.
