Yiyan Cao is a tax attorney. She is the founder and principal attorney for CaoLaw, P.C., based in Los Angeles, California.
CaoLaw, founded in 2018, focuses on cross-border tax issues. She is experienced in advising overseas clients on pre-immigration planning and investments in the U.S., ranging from real estate to private equity funds. Cao counsels many high net worth individuals and families on estate planning with assets in multiple jurisdictions. Cao also routinely assists clients with international tax reporting and compliance, as well as expatriation planning.
Cao’s prior experience includes leading an international tax law team in the Los Angeles office of the Chinese Zhong Lun Law Firm. She has counseled Chinese public companies on business acquisitions in the U.S., assisted pre-IPO companies with business restructuring, and advised family offices, executives of multinational companies and high net worth clients on complex tax matters. She has also worked for a nonprofit in the Netherlands, which fueled her passion to aid in charitable activities.
Cao graduated with a law degree from Tsinghua University in China, studied law at Melbourne University and obtained her LL.M. from UCLA. She is licensed to practice in New York and California.
Cao is fluent in English and Mandarin.
