Why do I receive a "Your Name was Updated" notice from USCIS? - EB5Investors.com

Why do I receive a “Your Name was Updated” notice from USCIS?

I am a Korean national. I applied for I-526 in March 2018 and have been waiting for the approval since. However, I received “Your Name was Updated” notice. What has most likely happened with the adjudication process and what is the likelihood of receiving the approval within the next 2-3 months?

It is hard to determine exactly what triggers such a case status update on USCIS online system. It could be that someone is working on your case, but there is no guarantee that you will receive an approval or RFE in a certain period of time.

Those notices seem to come when someone inquires about the case status.

It could mean they have your file and are starting to adjudicate but this is an unusual notice.

A change of address, change of attorney or attorney''s address or any other data change in your file with USCIS would trigger such an update. It generally does not have anything to do with adjudication. For example, the issuance of an RFE or approval would be stated on Case Status. As to the likelihood of receiving the approval within the next 2-3 months, no one knows. but I would say it is unlikely given the processing trends we are seeing. But having said that, maybe you are one of the lucky ones and will have a decision before the 29.5 months mark.

Often, I see it when a new G-28 is filed. That system of USCIS Case Status has a very limited number of messages it sends to us, "name was updated" often seems to come after a new G-28.
