Under what circumstances should I renew my passport for an EB-5 visa interview?

My I-526 application was approved. I received a notice from the National Visa Center saying that I had to review my passport before attending the EB-5 visa interview. However, my visa is still more than six months from expiration. Renewing my passport will take five months. Is it necessary to renew? My passport expires on August 2019 and the interview might be scheduled on December 2018.

To avoid any delays or issues with the NVC and your EB-5 visa processing, it may be advisable to renew the passport. In most cases you have the option to expedite the process (an additional fee would apply in most cases, but it is worth the cost to have it processed timely) to ensure you get your passport issued in time for the immigrant visa interview.

General rule is that a passport must be valid for at least six months. Looks like you are going to have enough time, but it may be advisable to renew it.

You should timely renew your passport depending upon the rules and regulations of your home country. It would normally be advisable to try to renew same at the earliest date that you&#39re eligible to do so per the passport regulations of your home country. You need to have a valid passport that will not expire within six months at the time of your immigrant visa review based upon the approval of your EB-5 investor petition on Form I-526.

They like to see that the passport is valid for at least six months beyond the period of your proposed stay. There is a chance you can get the green card issued with so little time left, but I would strongly recommend that you get it renewed now.

The usual rule is that a petitioner&#39s passport must have a minimum expiration period beyond six months when the interview is conducted. In your case, it appears you are okay. Advisably, wait until after the interview before pursuing the renewal process since it will take five months turnaround time.

You should follow the instructions from NVC.

One&#39s passport should be valid throughout the entire period of visa validity. Your EB-5 visa will be for one entry, where after you enter you will get your green card. Since the NVC cannot guarantee the appointment date, they may make a recommendation like that. You still need a valid passport, though.

Normally the passport just needs to be valid for six months.

If the National Visa Center stated you must renew your passport, it is recommended that you do so.
