What factors comprise a genuine connection for the purposes of Malta citizenship-by-investment?

I have seen that my authorized agent will have to write an argument for my genuine connection and that we will have to await written approval of the proposed link. I have spoken with a few authorized agents although I have not selected one yet. I just want to make sure they are right that there are many ways to prove a genuine connection without residency. Everything I have read seems to say that I have to be a resident at some point. Thank you and I appreciate your help.

The law does not specify what the connection to Malta must be, in the sense that it leaves it up to the person to prove that he has attained a sufficient link to Malta. There are many ways in which to achieve this including, but not limited to periods of residence, investments done in Malta, undertaking courses in Malta, use of Maltese companies within the investors? business, participation in local activities and other similar connecting factors.

Hi, the MIIP requires the main applicant to hold the status of a resident for 12 months prior to naturalization. The status of a resident is determined with reference to our concept of ordinary residence for tax (though there are distinctions, so it does not necessarily have tax implications). In essence, you will be required to spend some time in Malta, the amount of time will depend upon what other economic and social connections you put in place to support such a finding. Things like opening a local bank account, using a local broker/bank to purchase the Malta govt. bonds, joining a local gym/social clubs, donating to local charities etc. would all assist in reducing the required day count to support a finding of residence for the purposes of the MIIP.
