What type of documentation do I need to provide to prove that the funds I will invest come from legitimate sources?

I am preparing to invest in the Tier 1 (Investor visa). I have some funds in the UK in various investments. Some funds will come from money I’ve inherited from a relative. What are the requirements and documentation required to show the source of funds?

For inherited funds, you will need to provide a notarized copy of the will, as well as a letter of confirmation from your solicitor or notary. If you have already inherited the money and the money has been in your or your spouse's bank accounts for the last three months, then you will only need to provide the bank statements; there would be no need to include the notarized will.

The evidence will depend on whether you have held the funds for over 90 days or less than 90 days. If you have held the funds for over 90 days, a will and/or legal letter confirming the inheritance should suffice. In relation to the balance of funds, the source of funds documents will depend on how you obtained the funds.

Tier 1 Investor Visa requires the funds to have been held for 90 days. The source of funds for money held less than 90 days must be evidenced by the relevant documents.

There are various supporting documents you would need to be issued with a Tier 1 (Investor) visa. An experienced UK immigration advisor would be able to assist you in preparing these documents for submission to the Home Office if formally instructed.
