How can I travel with an EB-5 visa and a citizenship application?

I have just received approval for my EB-5 visa. I still need to get it by mail; I only have the notice saying it is OK. Meanwhile, my 10-year green card will soon expire. Because I decided to start my U.S. citizenship process, and while I was waiting for the EB-5 approval, I didn’t take the step to renew it. Now, I’m planning to travel abroad soon, and I worry—will I have any trouble when I come back to the U.S.?

As long as you leave the United  States with either>
(a) a still‑valid green card
(b) the expired card plus an N‑400 or I‑90 receipt (or an ADIT stamp)

CBP should admit you without issue.

The receipt notice now contains automatic extension language, 36‑months for
a I-90 and a 24-months for a N-400.

The EB‑5 approval notice is good news but is irrelevant to your ability to board a plane or clear inspection.

Keep the trip under six months, preserve strong U.S. ties, and you will stay on track for citizenship. Safe travels!

To return to the United States you need to have a valid unexpired green card. If you file a renewal form for the green card, you received an extension on your current green card while process is pending and will be able to travel.
