How can I better prepare for my U.S. visa interview?

Besides having the necessary documentation and answering truthfully, what else can I do to ensure a successful interview? I will be interviewing at the consulate in Mexico for my F1 visa.

For your F-1 visa interview in Mexico, the most important steps are: show strong ties to your home country (future career, family, property, or obligations), know your program and why you chose that school, and be ready to explain how it fits your long-term plans. Practice answering in clear and confident way, without memorized scripts, and be concise and truthful. Prepare to explain your financial support clearly and bring extra documents in case questions arise. Stay calm, professional, and polite throughout,
dress neatly, and make sure your social media and background are consistent with your stated goals. Recent DOS guidance also highlights stricter social media vetting and the need to apply in your country of residence, so review the Mexico consulate’s instructions before the interview.

If you don’t have an attorney to prepare you, at a minimum be able to discuss your proposed studies, available funds, career plans, ties to MX and how you plan to return to MX at the end of your studies/expiration of student stats.

Be prepared to show, with extensive paperwork, that you can afford your education and living expenses and that you intend to return home after your studies. Also, be ready to answer questions such as: Why this university/program? How did you choose your course? Who is funding your education? What are your career plans after graduation? And do you plan to return to your home country?

I recommend reviewing your Form DS-160 that was filed with the consulate and be prepared to respond questions about your educational background and future professional plans.
