What happens if I remain out of the U.S. while waiting for re-entry permit approval?

I have received a 10-year green card. I intend to stay outside the US for more than a year, so I applied for a re-entry permit in Dec 2021, then I left the US in Feb 2022. It has been more than 12 months but my re-entry permit is not approved yet (I applied for a re-entry permit 3 times in the past). Do I need to return to the US? If I do not return while my re-entry permit is not approved yet, will I lose my green card?

Being out of the US for more than one year may be a basis for abandonment, and if the permit is not approved, you should return with evidence that this is where you live, if true.

You would only need to return if they do not waiver your biometrics and schedule you for a biometrics appointment. Otherwise fine to remain outside the U.S.
