My mother was a lawful permanent resident for the last 25 years. She went home to Ireland to care for her sick parents. She was out of the States for too long without returning and it compromised her renewal. She submitted an exhausting amount of paperwork from Ireland and from me here in the States. She has flown twice to England for appointments, undergone their physical requirements, and the only information she can get at this point is that the application window expired. How does she resolve this and get back to the States? If she is essentially no longer a permanent resident, can she just come as a tourist?
