How are H-1B extensions really working out?

I am interested in applying for the H-1B lottery, but I have concerns about the information online saying that U.S. employers are being encouraged not to extend work contracts with these visas beyond the first 3 years. Is this really happening?

No this is not accurate, but if you are not in the US and eligible to change status, then the filing fee presently has a $100,000 add-on.
