Will the U.K.’s Tier 1 (Investor) visa become a good option for E.U. citizens who want to continue living in Britain post-Brexit?

My wife and I are from France but have lived in London for the past 20 years. My wife and daughters and I are now retired. I understand the Tier 1 (Investor) Visa is currently only available to non-EU citizens. I’m curious to know if that will change after Brexit.

There would be no reason for you to obtain an Investor visa after Brexit. You can apply now for a Permanent Residence (PR) card and, once you obtain it, you could apply for British Citizenship (if you wanted it). It is still uncertain what the rules will be for Europeans after Brexit, but it is highly unlikely you would need to apply for an Investor visa to stay here. Like I said, you and your wife should be eligible to apply now for Permanent Residence in the UK.

If you have lived in the UK for over 5 years, either working, studying or being self-sufficient, then you are eligible to apply for Permanent Residency. This is the same for your family, so you should apply for this instead of looking at alternative visa categories. Please note that you can rely on a 5-year period and, if you apply using a period 6 years ago, once you receive your Permanent Residency, you can apply to naturalize as a British citizen without having to wait one year.
